Dear Chester County Democratic Voter:

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then these two images are worth 74 million popular votes (and counting) nationwide, 3.4 million in Pennsylvania and 179 thousand in Chester County.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then these two images are worth 74 million popular votes (and counting) nationwide, 3.4 million in Pennsylvania and 179 thousand in Chester County.

Just before noon yesterday, the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote, “Former Vice President Joe Biden has won Pennsylvania, and with it the presidency of the United States, according to the Associated Press. The projection caps a long and arduous vote count in Pennsylvania, where election officials were deluged with millions of mail ballots. President-elect Biden will immediately face daunting challenges, including the surging coronavirus pandemic and faltering economy. President Donald Trump has not yet conceded defeat and has continued to level baseless allegations of widespread fraud in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.”

Let us all exhale and take a moment to celebrate. What a relief! The outpouring of joy as people poured into the streets in towns and cities across the country was amazing.

In Chester County, we started 2020 in a strong position and have gotten even stronger as the year has progressed. It was only in May that we finally had more registered Democrats than Republicans! While we did not win every race, I am particularly grateful to all our extraordinary candidates and their teams. They have all made us proud.

Detailed results can be found here. There are a few more votes to be counted including provisional ballots (ballots that require additional verification to assure their validity) and ballots from military and overseas personnel. To summarize the current count:

• Voter engagement was extraordinarily high with total turnout approaching 82%

• Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the county by 52,000 votes, capturing 57% of the total votes cast

• Chrissy Houlahan won re-election by a wide margin

• Carolyn Comitta and John Kane will be representing Chester County in the PA State Senate

• Five incumbent State Representatives are headed back to Harrisburg:
Dan Williams (74th House District)
Danielle Friel Otten (155th House District)
Melissa Shusterman (157th House District)
Chris Sappey (158th House District)
Kristine Howard (167th House District)

• Dianne Herrin joins our five incumbent State Representatives by successfully retaining the seat vacated by Carolyn Comitta in the 156th. We unfortunately came up short in two races: Richard Ruggieri in the 13th House District and Paul Friel in the 26th House District.

• In the 160th, which straddles Chester and Delaware Counties, Anton Andrew is trailing by a mere 596 votes. We will continue watching this race as the final provisional and military/overseas ballots are counted.

• In the one municipal race on the ballot, Lisa Dorsey was elected to fill a vacancy on West Chester Borough Council.

I would like to thank you for your support of the Chester County Democratic Party this year. It is fair to say that your support was essential to our success. The results in Chester County are your results. I do, however, have one final request this year. If you can, please give whatever you can to help the two candidates for the U.S. Senate in Georgia: Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris need them in the Senate. We all need them in the Senate if we are going to heal this nation, if we are going to move our country forward.

Please stay safe, respect others by wearing a mask and, most of all, enjoy this historic moment. We all earned it!

Thank you for everything you have done to help us get to this point.

All the best to you all,

Dick Bingham
