email from PA Sen. Katie Muth (D-44), 8/20/19

Dear change-makers,

While some legislators were rushing to pass the budget in order to make sure that their summer vacation plans were not ruined, I was fighting for the most vulnerable among us.

Work ethic is what got me here and there are too many people depending on Harrisburg to get its act together to go on vacation. This summer I have been hard at work drafting legislation and meeting with constituents in preparation for a late-September return to Harrisburg.

The past 7 months have been very eye-opening. The reality is that there are not enough people in Harrisburg fighting for the greater good of people. Transactional morality reigns supreme in the Capitol, and this past budget cycle we saw that people in power would rather settle for cowardly comprises and strip away programs and services that lift people up.

I won’t back down. I will keep fighting for economic freedom, tax fairness, victims’ rights, affordable healthcare, and environmental protections. In short, I will keep fighting for legislation that will improve the lives of the hardworking Pennsylvanians that put me into office.

"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." — Nelson Mandela
