U.S. CAPITOL FLAG NOW FLIES HIGH OVER WEST CHESTER
Citizens May Request Their Own Capitol Flag As A Special Memento Via Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan’s Website
West Chester, PA (17:53:29) – Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan’s good deed had Chester County Democratic Committee (CCDC) Chairman Dick Bingham atop a ladder on High Street in downtown West Chester.
Motorists and pedestrians passing CCDC’s headquarters can now see a piece of Washington, DC flying over their county seat. Bingham, with CCDC Vice Chair Marsha Peltz holding the ladder, happily affixed an American flag that had recently flown over the U.S. Capitol. It now flies over the doorway of 37 S. High Street.
West Chester resident Jim Salvas made the request for a Capitol flag as soon as the Congresswoman was elected. It was the first flag flown at her request since her swearing in on January 3, 2019. Anyone from Houlahan’s 6th Congressional District can make the request as described on her website.
An official certificate arrived with the 3-foot by 5-foot nylon flag that read, “This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol. At the request of the Honorable Chrissy Houlahan, Member of Congress, this flag was flown for the Chester County Democratic Committee.”
The fee for the flag was donated by Salvas, who serves as the Zone Leader of the West Chester Democratic Committee, one of 20 zones that represent Democrats across the county. CCDC paid for the new flagpole and the solar light above the flag.
Like Houlahan, many county Democrats have served in the armed forces, including Salvas, a Vietnam veteran. He noted this American flag brings a special meaning to those serving party and country.
