Statement from CCDC on Trump Racist Video

The President’s decision to share a video portraying President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as apes is a clear act of racism. There is no ambiguity here.

For generations, comparisons of Black people to monkeys or apes have been used as racist propaganda and this instance is no different. Any attempt to minimize or feign ignorance of its meaning is unjustifiable. This video is yet another example of Trump and his administration’s attempts to divide us. Their inability to take accountability for it stands in direct opposition to the values we claim to hold as Americans.

Chester County deserves leaders who stand behind all of their constituents and have the courage to call out this despicable and indefensible behavior.
