With today’s Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the rights of women around the country were greatly attacked. The right to a safe abortion is no longer ensured, and millions of women have just lost autonomy over their bodies at the hands of six conservative justices.
Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, it’s more important than ever that we unite in support for the right to choose. Undoubtedly, Republicans in Pennsylvania and around the country are eager to take advantage of this recent ruling and act quickly to restrict or even end abortion access. The Chester County Democratic Committee stands strongly against such restrictions on women’s bodily and reproductive autonomy and will continue to advocate for the codification of Roe v. Wade.
Today is a dark day for our country, but we cannot stop in our fight to protect abortion rights in the United States. After this recent ruling, abortions will continue to happen – they just won’t be safe.
We must act now in our state legislature to pass protections for abortion to ensure that safe abortions remain accessible for the women of Pennsylvania. A lot is on the line in November, and we must do everything we can to keep our state blue in the upcoming midterm election. This means electing Josh Shapiro as Governor and John Fetterman to U.S. Senate, and re-electing U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan.
We have a long road ahead of us, but we will stand strong in our support of a woman’s basic right to decide what’s best for her own body.
