#RESIST THE CHAOS!

Are you wanting to contact your federal legislators and the White House about the chaotic and harmful actions being taken by Congressional Republicans, government agencies, and the White House but don’t know how to start? We’ve drafted some scripts to use – and there are more to come.

LIMITS ON ICE

Caller: Hi, my name is [Your Name], a constituent from [Your City, ZIP].

I’m calling to urge [Representative/Senator Name] to oppose any DHS appropriations bill that fails to include strict limits on ICE. It is vital that we rein in the current “blank check” for mass deportations.

I am asking the [Member] to demand these three specific limits in the budget:

  1. Rescind excessive funding: Revoke the $170 billion surplus for mass detentions and deportations.

  2. Protect sensitive locations: Prohibit enforcement at schools, hospitals, and houses of worship.

  3. End warrantless arrests: Halt the use of “dragnet” operations and warrantless home entries by masked agents.

Our tax dollars should be reinvested in our communities, not in expanding a deadly detention system. Will the [Member] commit to voting “No” on any funding bill that lacks these essential guardrails?

Staffer: [Wait for response]

Caller: Thank you for your time. Please record my strong opposition.

THE “SAVE” ACT

My name is [your name] from [Chester County / your municipality] and I’m [calling/writing] to urge you to vote against the Republican sponsored bill called the ‘Safeguard American Voter Eligibility’ (SAVE) America Act, which would require a document proving citizenship in order to register to vote and in order to vote. Only Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington have “enhanced” driver’s licenses that would meet the requirement. In all other states, including Pennsylvania, voters would need either a passport or a birth certificate.

Half of Americans don’t have a passport; others don’t have their birth certificates, and the names of married women who took their husband’s last name and transgender Americans would not match their birth certificates. The bill also calls for state officials to purge voter rolls. The Brennan Center for Justice found that if the measure passes, about 21 million Americans could lose their votes.
I’m also concerned that the bill significantly limits mail-in voting, which is an affront to hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians who have work or home responsibilities, medical / physical limitations, or required travel that limits their ability to vote in-person on Election Day, a work day for most people.

I am concerned that this voter suppression bill will keep many valid voters from being able to exercise their legal right to vote, and you must vote “No”.

VETERANS

My name is [your name] from [Chester County / your municipality] and as a Veteran (or friend/family member of a veteran), I’m [calling/writing] to urge you to address my concerns related to the following:

  1. Health Care Access: Veterans rely heavily on VA health care services, including treatment for burn-pit exposures and transportation for blind veterans. Cuts to these services could have dire consequences for veterans who depend on them.
  2. Job Reductions: The Trump budget includes layoffs of nearly 8,000 VA workers and a hiring freeze. This is impacting the delivery of care and benefits to veterans, leading to longer wait times and reduced service levels.
  3. Transparency and Communication: Advocacy groups have expressed concerns about the lack of transparency and communication from government agencies and the VA regarding the cuts. They are calling for greater transparency and communication from Congress, the VA, and the White House when fundamental changes are made to the department.
  4. Impact on Vulnerable Populations: Cuts to VA programs could disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, such as homeless veterans and women veterans who rely on VA services.
  5. Potential Privatization: There are concerns that the cuts could lead to increased privatization of veteran health care, potentially reducing access to specialized care options.

These concerns highlight the potential negative impact of the current budget cuts on veterans’ access to essential services and benefits. I am urging you to protect VA services and prevent any efforts to reduce or tax veterans’ benefits. We served this country faithfully [as you did?] and the actions being taken are shameful.

TARIFFS

For all Republican Senators and Representatives:
My name is [NAME] and I am a voting constituent from [ZIP CODE]. I’m furious that Republicans, including you, and the administration continue to deflect our attention away from the irreparable damage caused by the administration’s tariffs. This damage extends to relationships with our allies and trading partners. The reciprocal tariffs other countries impose mean that American manufacturers that import their product components from high-tariff countries now pay more for those components. American manufacturers face massive tariffs when trying to sell their products abroad. I demand that you speak out against the administration’s tariffs. Do you understand how the administration’s tariffs are hurting the companies the administration claims to help? You were elected to represent us and to act on our behalf. Speak out against the administration’s tariffs. You need to do your job.

For all Democrat Senators and Representatives:
My name is [NAME] and I am a voting constituent from [ZIP CODE]. I’m furious that MAGA Republicans and the administration continue to deflect our attention away from the irreparable damage caused by the administration’s tariffs. You were elected to represent us and to act on our behalf. EVERY DEMOCRAT should be talking about these tariffs at every opportunity. Put the blame where it belongs: on the Republicans and the administration. And when you get back to DC, continue to do everything you can to remove these Republican-imposed tariffs. Thank you.
