Chester County Democrats Finalize Winning Slate of Candidates for November 3 2026 Midterm Election
May 20, 2026 WEST CHESTER, PA – The 2026 Pennsylvania Primary Election provided an expected relatively low turnout of 20.4% in Chester County, with all precincts reporting and votes tabulated. What may have been unexpected was the nearly 2:1 turnout difference between Democrats and Republicans, likely due to comparative voter enthusiasm between the two parties. Democratic Party officials submit that public disdain for Trump Administration policies, the unpopular Iran War spiking gas prices, and tariffs causing inflation along with nearly total GOP submission to the President were key drivers to Republican voters staying home and Democrats voting their displeasure.
As expected, incumbents Governor Josh Shapiro and Lt. Governor Austin Davis will lead the November ticket with over 50,000 county votes received. They will face Republican Stacey Garrity and Jason Richey in the General Election on November 3rd, with both receiving just over 26,000 votes.
Incumbent Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan similarly drew nearly twice as many votes as Republican hopeful Marty Young, who she will face off against as Democrats hope to regain the majority in the US House of Representatives next January, as a counter to the corruption and incompetence of the current administration.
In addition to Houlahan, Shapiro and Davis, Chester County Democrats are proud to support a diverse and experienced group of incumbent* and new candidates dedicated to protecting county resident interests in the State House and Senate:
44th Senate District – Senate Katie Muth*
13th House District – Madelyn Alvarino
26th House District – Paul Friel*
74th House District – Dan Williams*
155th House District – Danielle Otten*
156th House District – Chris Pielli*
157th House District – Melissa Shusterman*
158th House District – Christina Sappey*
160th House District – Elizabeth Moro
167th House District – Kristine Howard*Democrats also selected their local precinct committee persons and ten PA Democratic State Committee Members on Tuesday.
Chester County Democratic Committee chairwoman Charlotte Valyo summarized the day:
“The 2026 November election is an opportunity to elect representatives who will defend our right to vote, bring down the cost of living, fight for affordable healthcare for all, and protect our environment. And thank you to all the candidates who ran for Committeeperson and PA State Committee to drive our voter outreach. Congratulations to those who have been elected to serve these important positions. We look forward to Democrats taking majority control at both state and federal legislative levels working hard to restore faith in government and improving the lives of everyday Americans who have suffered through GOP policies and corruption.”
The Midterm General Election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
