from PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Facebook, 11/13/20
Pennsylvania, it’s been a long few weeks.
I know election results took days to come in & the waiting process was an emotional roller coaster.
Now that the votes have been counted & our race has been called: I’m proud to say our campaign made history with our resounding win.
With 3.4 million votes, I became the highest vote-getter ever in Pennsylvania electoral history. We won by more than four percentage points, earning 50.7% of the vote in a four-person field of candidates.
Our work drew support across ideological, geographic and party lines — all across our Commonwealth.
I can’t put into words how much that means to me.
This campaign was about more than just re-electing me as Attorney General. It was about proving that elected leaders can stand up to the most powerful, the most well-connected — and win.
Thousands of donors—from every county in Pennsylvania!—gave their hard-earned dollars to our campaign.
We raised hundreds of thousands of dollars online this year from grassroots donors, all with an average donation of less than 30 bucks.
The people of Pennsylvania showed up for me— attending Zoom fundraisers, making phone calls and sending texts from home, putting up yard signs, and most importantly casting their ballots.
Now, our work continues. I’m going to keep taking on the big fights.
We’ll keep working to defend Pennsylvanians’ constitutional right to clean air and pure water. We’ll keep defending access to health care. We’ll battle the epidemics of gun violence & opioids.
It is the honor of my life to serve as the people’s AG.
This weekend, I’m going to take some time to hang out with my kids, play some basketball and run around with our dogs. I encourage you to do the same — we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
