Let’s make history again in 2019
Your Chester County Democratic Committee started 2018 on a pretty high note with the swearing in of four Democratic Chester County Row Officers – Treasurer, Controller, Clerk of Courts and Coroner. We made history and shocked our Republican neighbors. How could we top that?
What a difference a year makes!
Nothing could have prepared us for the historic gains that were just months away! As we turn the calendar to 2019 let’s reflect on what we did, together in West Chester, in Harrisburg and in Washington, DC…
from CCDC chair Dick Bingham, 12/31/18
Thanks to your persistence we knocked on thousands of doors, mailed absentee ballot notices to seniors and college students, held petition parties, living room meet ‘n greets, attended zone meetings, marched in rallies and stood in the rain in vigils, donated dollars, worked alongside unions, had fun at CCDC’s Helicopter Museum and Casino Night fundraisers and never stopped volunteering until election night doors closed.
We had high hopes but The Blue Wave took a day or two to comprehend as wins tallied up across Chester County, our state and our nation’s capital. The final results were, according to the PA Dems, “the biggest legislative gains in 40 years”!
On election night 2018, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills summed it up best. “…Pennsylvania resoundingly rejected the Republican agenda of stolen health care, tax breaks for millionaires, anti-immigrant rhetoric, and the violent use of golf spikes. We won tonight not only because the Republicans’ agenda of stripping Americans of their health care and giving tax breaks to millionaires is wrong, but because Democrats organized, knocked on doors, talked to neighbors, and most importantly, voted.
“Make no mistake about tonight — Pennsylvania Democrats are a force to be reckoned with. We have roared back into the governor’s mansion and re-elected Governor Wolf. We have re-elected Senator Bob Casey for six more years in DC. We’ve picked up Congressional seats and helped the Democrats retake the U.S. House of Representatives. We’ve retaken seats in the State House and have ended the Republicans’ supermajority in the State Senate. Republicans should be on notice after tonight.”
The seismic changes in leadership trickled down to every zone in Chester County where a record turnout of Democrats came out to the polls. Precinct after precinct noticed how many of their Independent and Republican neighbors voted for the Democratic ticket! There was no other explanation as Republicans still led in voter registration in Chester County by several thousand.
We now have a Democratic Congresswoman (!), Senator, Governor, Lt. Governor, six PA State Representatives and three PA State Senators representing every corner of Chester County.
The results were so astounding that Chester County GOP Chair Val DiGiorgio resigned this month.
We have the opportunity to do it again in 2019! Municipal and judicial races have already geared up. Celebrate tonight and let’s get ready for an exciting 2019 in politics. Thank you for everything you did, for being persistent. It made all the difference at home and across our state.
