We have a mere 30 days to change the trajectory of this nation. One month from today we might know how we fared. After four years of the Trump presidency, it comes down to now.

I know each of you has worked hard while being exhausted by the ever-changing news. I am here to remind you that YOU have the power to change the course of history. And many of you have already voted. We are seeing selfies and reading social media updates as you mail your carefully-filled-out-and-packaged ballot. Many of you drove (or will be driving) to Chester County Voter Services, 601 Westtown Rd, West Chester, to personally hand in your ballot. Voting season is now open and it’s exciting.

We have created our own hashtag for you to use when you complete your task: #iVotedTodayinPA

With this hashtag we can track the movements of our mail-in ballots and pivot our marketing push every few days as we near Election Day. Once we hit October 20, we will turn our focus from mail-in via the post office to satellite sites, drop boxes and voting at the neighborhood poll on November 3. It’s your choice. On this day we highly recommend filling out your ballot and dropping it in the mailbox. In two weeks we’ll start promoting the many drop box locations.

One thing I know for sure – expect the unexpected! A pandemic? A Supreme Court Justice death? A hurricane? (2012’s Hurricane Sandy landed on October 22 and stayed 10 days!) The term October Surprise has already happened.

Today we are monitoring the President in a hospital with COVID-19. It’s been SIXTY years since something even close to this has happened during a presidential campaign season. And we know how that turned out…

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29, 1960 — Vice President Nixon entered the Walter Reed Army Medical Center today with an infected knee that will require about two weeks of hospital treatment. All campaign appearances, including a Labor Day engagement in New York, will be canceled until the treatment is completed.

No one can predict what will happen today, this week, this month. So, try to ignore the distractions and focus on what we can control. Continue encouraging folks in your bubble to PLAN THEIR VOTE. Our Chester County Democratic Committee website has a step-by-step Q&A to help you with this historic vote.

This week you can plant a lawn sign, sign up for a phone bank, donate to your local PA House Representative or PA Senate Candidate. We have eleven principled and passionate candidates to send to Harrisburg; many are incumbents. Our Chester County slate also includes three statewide races and Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan.

You may be interested in knowing that the national and international press has been calling the CCDC Office for quotes and background knowledge. They know that PA and specifically Chester County will be making the difference when the votes are counted on November 3 and beyond. PBS News Hour, The Times of London, The New York Times and a Japanese news producer have called in just the last week!

Help us spread our message. Every dollar raised in the last 30 days will help our ongoing efforts to Get Out The Vote in your precinct and at every precinct in the county. Donate online here. If you prefer to mail a check, make it payable to “CCDC” and send it to our headquarters at 37 S. High Street, West Chester, PA 19382.

Thank you for all you do. Stay healthy this week.

Dick Bingham
CCDC Chair

P.S. this Wednesday, October 7, Mike Pence is scheduled to face Kamala Harris for the one and only televised 2020 vice-presidential candidate debate. Expect the unexpected!
