The Democratic candidate for District Attorney, the highly respected Deb Ryan, will no longer face an incumbent in the November 5 general election. In a surprising development, 2-term Chesco D.A. Tom Hogan has announced that, although he won his party’s primary election in May, he will step down as the R candidate. The R party will name a replacement candidate.

See more about Deb Ryan on her site, which presents her with these words:

“As a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I have spent my entire career advocating for justice on behalf of children and adults who were victimized by crime and violence. As a dedicated and committed prosecutor and Chester County Prosecutor of the Year in 2014, I have continuously fought for the vulnerable, underserved, and marginalized members of the community. As District Attorney, I will continue to give a voice to the voiceless and to seek justice for victims in a fair and respectful way.”

Here is Ryan’s statement of July 3:

In light of the District Attorney’s announcement that he has withdrawn from the District Attorney’s race, I would like to thank him for his service to Chester County. I wish him and his family well in this new chapter of their lives.

I am excited to continue to travel across the county and listen to the great people of our community. It is only through listening and collaborating with all community stakeholders that we achieve success. I am humbled and thankful for my supporters who voted for me in the primary. Our message of being Smart On Crime and placing Victims First is resonating in our community.

I have spent my entire career advocating for justice on behalf of children and adults who were victimized by crime and violence. For 15 years, I worked in the Philadelphia and Chester County District Attorneys’ Offices, and it was my privilege to serve as the Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Child Abuse Unit and Children’s Advocacy Center.

As the Chester County District Attorney, I will continue to give a voice to the voiceless and to seek justice for victims in a fair and respectful way. With your support, I look forward to ushering in a new era of the Chester County District Attorney’s office that is held to the highest standards of transparency and integrity and ensures Justice For All.

I do not send many fundraising emails, and hopefully, we will be able to keep it that way. We have made great strides in our grassroots efforts with the support of people just like you. I am asking you now to take the next steps with me to victory in November.

Chip in $10 today. Help us all be winners on November 5th, 2019!

We have a bold vision for the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

As your next Chester County District Attorney, I promise:

I will always place Victims First.
I will promote community safety through criminal justice reform.
I will focus on prevention and education.
I will be an active partner in our community and collaborate with all stakeholders.
I will hold the District Attorney’s Office to the highest standards.

Now is also the time to invite your friends and family to join us. We need our team to expand to every area of our community and beyond.
Help us tell everyone that we are a formidable team, and we’re here to win.

Thank you,
Deb

"I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land." --MLK Jr., April 3, 1968
