The Chester County Democratic Committee stands with communities of color throughout our county. We’re astounded by attacks on public schools and on schools’ efforts to make the learning environment and educational outcomes more equal. At a time when Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs are the gold standard in just about every world-class workplace and educational setting, we find it disappointing that some have seized on the phrase “Critical Race Theory” and misused it as a deceptive critique on schools’ antiracism programming.
These attacks have crystallized in hateful public displays at school board meetings and now PA House Bill 1532, an unenforceable and unconstitutional attempt to destroy free speech, halt the teaching of accurate history and current events, undermine the pursuit of a more inclusive educational environment, and actually punish teachers for doing their job.
These attacks are dishonest and hurtful to children, families, educators, and community. We reject these divisive attempts to legislate hate and the false claims they’re premised on. We will always stand on the side of genuine respect and inclusion. We love our community fiercely and invite everyone in Chester County to stand on the side of love.
