	1 Rosa Parks arrested, Dec. 1, 1955 Rosa Parks arrested, Dec. 1, 1955 December 1, 2025 On December 1, 1955, those sitting in the front row of the "Black section" of a Montgomery AL bus were ordered to move back to make room for a White man who boarded the bus. Rosa Parks refused and was arrested. She was found guilty on December 5 and fined $10. The resulting Montgomery Bus Boycott led by MLK Jr. drew national attention; the US District Court Browder v.Gayle case led to the US Supreme Court declaring in 1956 that bus segregation is unconstitutional... and to the many successes of the Civil Rights Era.
