ROW OFFICE INCUMBENTS MAISANO AND GARCIA-JACKSON AND NEWCOMERS CHERUBINO AND BRADLEY ADVANCE; SMITH AND CAULEY FILL SLATE FOR COURT OF COMMON PLEAS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
West Chester, PA (May 21, 2025) – Tuesday’s Pennsylvania Primary Election demonstrated Democrats are poised for a strong performance in the upcoming November general election, with significant momentum building for a slate of experienced and highly qualified candidates across all levels of government. This growing support reflects the Democratic Party’s consistent commitment to delivering for local communities.
Low turnout and voter interest for both parties in the Primary was attributed to the lack of national impact and non-competitive races. Despite that, Democrats turned out in higher numbers than Republicans, with absentee and mail-in ballots contributing to the difference.“We have a winning ticket for November, and the energy we’re seeing on the ground is truly inspiring,” said Chester County Democratic Committee Chairwoman Charlotte Valyo. “This momentum for our county row offices, state and local judicial races, school directors, and municipal officials reflects how Democrats consistently deliver for our constituents. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all our candidates and their campaigns, dedicated poll watchers and greeters, legal support, and many other volunteers. Their hard work and tireless efforts are absolutely essential to our success and are making a real difference.”
The November ballot will feature critical judicial races, including statewide contests for Superior and Commonwealth appellate courts featuring Brandon Neuman and Stella Tsai respectively, and contests to fill two Chester County Court of Common Pleas judicial positions. The county judicial races featuring Clay Cauley and Mackenzie Smith are vital for ensuring a fair and just legal system, and these two candidates on the Democratic ticket bring a wealth and diversity of experience and a commitment to impartiality.
County Democrats will also be gearing up to support important retention votes in November for current Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justices Christine Donohue, David Wecht, and Kevin Dougherty, with Elon Musk and other Republican billionaire donors expected to flood outside money into the state in an expensive campaign to have them removed.
Four Chester County Government row office candidates won their Primary Elections for Controller, Treasurer, Coroner, and Clerk of Courts. On June 11, the Chester County Democratic Committee will vote to nominate a candidate to fill the open Prothonotary position for the November ballot.
Within the county’s 14 school districts, Democrats continue to actively counter the threat to public schools from extreme and well-funded “Moms for Liberty”-backed candidates. “Our public schools are the cornerstone of our communities, and we are committed to protecting them from divisive ideologies and underfunding,” stated Valyo. “Democratic candidates for school boards are dedicated to ensuring a high-quality education for all students, free from political interference.”
The Democratic momentum extends to township and municipal races, where experienced and highly qualified candidates are continuing to build a strong foundation for the November 4th General Election. These local leaders are committed to addressing the day-to-day needs of residents, from infrastructure improvements to community safety, ensuring that local governance works effectively for everyone while being fiscally responsible.
