Three charts that say a lot about unauthorized immigrants

From “Here’s the Reality About Illegal Immigrants in the United States” by VIVIAN YEE, KENAN DAVIS and JUGAL K. PATEL, New York Times, 3/6/17.

The charts show that the current administration’s intended crackdown reflects the situation not today but during the George Bush presidency, because since then unauthorized immigrants have been increasingly likely to have lived in the US for a long time, to have US-born children, and to have overstayed a visa rather than crossed the Mexican border.

% of unauthorized immigrants in the US over 10 and under 5 years

% of unauthorized immigrants with and without US-born children

% of unauthorized immigrants who overstayed visas or crossed the Mexican border
