How to determine your congressional district

Among the ingeniously gerrymandered shapes below (as of January 2013, based on the 2010 census), CD 7 has won fame as “the Bullwinkle district.” CDs 6, 7 and 16 all extend into other counties, even though Chester County on its own has about 5/7 of a single district’s population.

Here is a map of the Chester County part of the three districts:

To see your municipality’s name you may need to download the map and enlarge it on your screen or print it for reference:

If you aren’t sure of your precinct, find out here.

Here are three other ways to figure out your district:

1) Below see maps of the Chester County portions of the 3 congressional districts. If you are well away from district boundaries, the maps make your location clear.

2) See a map of each district superimposed on municipal boundaries here (enlarge with the + function as needed).

3) Below the maps in the current post, see lists with every municipality in each district (Chesco municipalities are in boldface font).

Rather than hunting through the three lists, highlight this entire post and search for your municipality. If it is split, you will need to know your precinct).

Note that “District South, division 02” in the descriptions below means “Precinct S-2,” etc.

4) Finally (this will take a little more time, but is totally reliable), see any address in the outline of its district superimposed on municipal boundaries:

Go to googlemaps.com
Click on “Get directions” under the multicolored word Google
Enter your home mailing address in both A (My Location) and B
Just under that, click in the blue “GET DIRECTIONS” box
You should get a very enlarged map showing your street
Enter http://www.chescodems.org/maps/6th.kml in the box at the top to see the 6th CD
Enter http://www.chescodems.org/maps/7th.kml in the box at the top to see the 7th CD
Enter http://www.chescodems.org/maps/16th.kml in the box at the top to see the 16th CD
Search by clicking the blue Q at the top
You should see a map of that district with a green pointer to your house
Cick on the + to enlarge the map if needed.
If your house is outside that district, try substituting 6th, 7th, or 16th in the search address at the top.
